History
BMW began as an airplane engine manufacturer and in their days after World War I, BMW started producing BMW motorcycle parts and more specifically the started exporting the opposing flat twin cylinder engine which we know today as the -boxer- engine. In 1923 BMW Motorcycles offer their first motorcycle under the BMW name, the R32.
After World War II BMW motorcycles sales were struggling, due in part to the sacristy of BMW Motorcycle Parts. But it was a different story on this side of the pond, BMW Motorcycles made their way to the USA in the late 50’s and their sales and popularity grew through the 60’s. In the 70’s BMW motorcycles launched an entirely revamped product line of 500 cc, 600 cc and 750 cc displacement models.
Current BMW motorcycles fall into the following types: Duel-Sport, Sport Touring, Streetbikes and Sportbikes. BMW motorcycles are known for their superb engineering and aggressive design. The Duel-sports motorcycles are great Enduro racers and give the rider the flexibility for an incredible ride on road and off.
Not to be out done by the Duel Sport models, BMW Motorcycles also offer some of the nicest Sport Touring motorcycles on the market today. The BMW motorcycle offer both performance and long distance touring comfort. Most of the bikes in this segment are offer with the 1170cc engine.
BMW has a great dealer network of around 150 BMW dealerships most with excellent sales, service and a huge selection of BMW motorcycle parts and accessories.
In July of 2007 it was announced that BMW had signed a contract to acquire the Husqvarna motorcycle brand, including its production facilities and staff, from Italian manufacturer MV Agusta.
We are very excited to see what incredible motorcycles will be produced as a result of this partnership.
